Six Turkish soldiers killed in guerrilla actions in southern Kurdistan

Six members of the Turkish occupation forces were killed by guerrillas in southern Kurdistan, including a high-ranking officer. A Turkish drone was also shot down.

In its daily statement about the ongoing war in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq), the Press Office of the People's Defence Forces (HPG) reported that at least six members of the Turkish occupation forces, including a high-ranking military officer, were killed in guerrilla actions between 7 and 9 September. Guerrillas also shot down another drone of the Turkish army.

The high-ranking military officer was killed on Thursday in the Çemço area in the Zap region. Within a few hours, mobile guerrilla units struck the occupying troops who were trying to approach the Şehîd Adil resistance massif four times. In the process, a second soldier was killed and another two were fatally shot by snipers. Two Turkish occupiers were also killed in Xakurke on Wednesday. This action was directed against a military position established in the surrounding area of Girê Koordîne, which was completely destroyed.

In Metîna, explosive charges placed by occupying forces at the defensive positions at Girê Amêdî could be secured by mobile guerrilla units and detonated in a controlled manner. At Girê Cûdî, an advance of the Turkish army on the resistance massif was successfully thwarted. A reconnaissance drone was shot down over the Girê FM.

HPG pointed out that the air and ground attacks of the Turkish army on guerrilla areas as well as civilian settlements in southern Kurdistan continue unabated. In addition to 16 air strikes, HPG recorded "dozens of artillery attacks" since Wednesday, which were carried out from outposts on the border.

Six of the airstrikes were carried out by fighter jets and targeted the village of Deşîşê, located in Metîna, the Zap's surrounding area and the resistance area of Sîda. A wildfire broke out here as a result of the bombardments and continues to rage. According to the statement, the Turkish army used chemical warfare agents against the guerrillas thirteen times in the past few days; in some cases, the chemicals spread the smell of chlorine after exploding. These attacks were mainly directed against targets in Şikefta Birîndara, Girê Amêdî and Şehîd Fedakar.

In the area of Werxelê near Avaşîn, the Turkish army repeatedly tried to demolish the guerrillas' defensive positions and underground tunnels with excavator vehicles but were thwarted. HPG also reported intensive reconnaissance flights over the FM, Cûdî and Amêdî hills as well as Şehîd Fedakar and Şehîd Adil.
