TAJÊ sends a letter to Iraqi President and Prime Minister, calling for an end to attacks on Yazidis

TAJÊ sent a letter to the President and Prime Minister of Iraq, demanding that they withdraw their troops from the center of Shengal and release the YBŞ fighters immediately.

The Yazidi Women's Freedom Movement (TAJÊ) sent a letter to Iraqi President Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani.

TAJÊ stated that the attacks against Yazidis must stop immediately, the tension must end and the Iraqi government must respect the Resistance Forces of Shengal.

Recalling the 2014 genocide, TAJÊ said that the Iraqi government turned its back on the Yazidis and did not defend them in such a difficult period, while the YBŞ and YJŞ forces, composed of the children of Shengal, put up honorable resistance against ISIS and protected the honor of Iraq at great cost.

Referring to the deployment of armored vehicles in many parts of the Shengal city, TAJÊ said: “The current situation endangers civilians and creates a dangerous situation. The deployment of military forces among civilians is against international law. 10 years after the 2014 onslaught, the Iraqi government has still not recognized the genocide.”

“On the one hand, the Iraqi government has issued a General Amnesty Law for ISIS mercenaries that committed genocide against Yazidis. On the other hand, the Iraqi army is attacking Yazidi people who fought ISIS and freed the region,” the statement said.

TAJÊ remarked that YBŞ and YJŞ forces have been defending Shengal against all kinds of threats for 10 years and said, “The Iraqi government is attacking these forces instead of officially recognizing them.”

“Thousands of Yazidis are still living in the places they fled while thousands more are in the hands of ISIS and their fate is unknown. As Yazidi women and the Yazidi people, we do not want any more bloodshed on our land and we do not want anyone to be harmed.”

TAJÊ expressed their demands as follows: “The YBŞ fighters held by the Iraqi army should be released. The forces of the 20th Division of the Iraqi army should immediately withdraw from Shengal, from among civilians. Stop the attacks against the Yazidis immediately and end the conflict. The Iraqi government must respect and recognize the YBŞ and YJŞ forces who have fought ISIS and defended the Iraqi territory.”
