Tens of thousands of Kurds celebrated Newroz in foothills of Qandil mountains in Southern Kurdistan.
Kurds from the North, South, East and Western Kurdistan gathered in Qandil in this year’s Kurdish New Year Newroz celebrations. Representatives of several political parties, institutions and activists attended the event.
The crowd chanted slogans in support of resistance in Afrin and also in favour of Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan.
Father of slain YPG fighter Bashur Soran’s father spoke at the event. A message by Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) was read to the crowd.
“The states and international organizations proved that they are against our people with their stance over Afrin and our legitimate struggle. They showed that they won’t accept the freedom and right demands of our people. The will of the people will break all attacks, complots and invasion. Because Kurdish people are determined on the revolution” the statement read.
KCK also stressed that Kurdish people will stand against the cruel enemies with the spirit of Newroz and achieve national unity.
After the message Evin Zilan from the KJK spoke and urged women and Kurdish people to unite and support each other in their freedom struggle.
Co-chair of Tevgera Azadi (Kurdistan Free Society Movement) Mihemed Ebdullah also spoke at the event and condemned the invasion of Afrin.
PUK MP Arez Ebdullah and Gorran MP Emin Bekir spoke afterwards and declared their support for Afrin.
