New prisons are being built in North Kurdistan as more people are being jailed as part of the increasingly ongoing operations of political genocide.

Three new prisons have been built in Van province one month ago; Van Closed Prison, T Type Prison and Open Prison. Inmates were transferred to these prisons although they are still under construction.

Inmates kept in Van M Type Prison and T Type Prison in Erzurum's Oltu district have been referred to the newly constructed Van T Type Prison.

Prisoners are facing major problems such as lack of water and medical treatment as the construction of these prisons has not finished yet.

Inmates, not only ordinary but also political ones, are also facing a particular treatment in these prisons as they are subject to strip search on their arrival and they are not allowed to wear a watch.

Prisoners are furthermore threatened to be locked in cold and wet cells in the winter season.

IHD Prisons Commission stated that they were examining the situation in these prisons and would share their observations with the public later on.
