Turkish army continues to bomb villages in Southern Kurdistan

The Turkish army is bombing Kurdish villages in the border region between Southern and Northern Kurdistan. Villager’s fields and vineyards are also deliberately targeted.

Turkey has a long history of systematic attacks against Kurdish civilians especially after the 90s when more than 3000 villages were destroyed by the army. Similar attacks now continue in the border region between Southern and Northern Kurdistan. Recently dozens of villages were bombed by Turkish warplanes in the region.

Residents of Dırê, Erdewê, Sate, Herki, Bedewê, Kiê, Bêgalte, Şuke, Stune, Mervanos Ertis, Herguş, Mawata, Meze, Gunde Şive, Hopê and Adıl Beg villages didn’t leave their homes and continue their lives under Turkish bombing.

On October 10 people were killed as Turkish warplanes bombed Avasin, Basya and Zap regions.

A resident of Hergus village, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that there are remnants of cluster bombs in the villages.

“Hergus is one of the most beautiful villages in Kurdistan. We live there for years. But now we can’t come here. The security forces of KDP prevents us from going to our own village. So we come here illegally. For god’s sake, tell me of a person in the world who comes to his home illegally.

When we arrive at our village after walking for hours, we see these bombs. We didn’t know what these were before. Our children were wounded, livestock was killed. The government of Southern Kurdistan remains silent despite these. I call upon the government to intervene” he said.

He also noted that several people were arrested by Kurdistan Democratic Party because they spoke out against the Turkish bombing.

“Why they are doing this to us? There are Turks on one side and KDP on the other. They only say that there is a military operation. We don’t know what to do.” he added.
