Police officers desecrated the graves of some HPG and YPS members in Yeniköy Cemetery in central Amed.
Graves of HPG (People’s Defense Forces) and YPS (Civil Defense Units) in Yeniköy Cemetery in Amed’s central Bağlar district have been attacked by the Turkish police. Gravestones were broken and scattered around.
According to reports, undercover police officers came to the cemetery a few days ago and told the watchman that they would tear down all the tombstones with “martyr” and “guerrilla” inscriptions on them. Entering the graveyard in the small hours of the morning, the police officers broke such gravestones into pieces.
After hearing about the incident, families rushed to the cemetery, complaining that even their dead are not left in peace now, describing the attack as an act that has no place in religion.
The Yeniköy Cemetery was pointed as a target on social media recently as some accounts posted messages like “There is a PKK cemetery in the center of Diyarbakır”. Graves of HPG, YPS and YPS-JİN in this cemetery had been attacked and demolished similarly before.
