Turkish soldiers attacked the commemoration held by Doğan’s grave on the anniversary of the deaths of Kurdish politician women Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez who had been murdered in the French capital Paris on January 9, 2013. Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs Leyla Birlik and Dilek Öcalan, HDP caucus members Democratic Regions Party (DBP) administrators and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Presidential Council members wanted to hold a commemoration by Doğan’s grave in the Molebutton village in Maraş’s Elbistan district.

The committee was stopped by the police by the entrance of the district and were allowed through to the village after a long wait. The committee was then stopped by the soldiers by the entrance of the cemetery.

SOLDIERS ATTACKED THE TOMBSTONE

Despite the obstacles, women gathered by Doğan’s grave and placed red carnations on it. The soldiers attacked the women then and pushed them out of the cemetery. The red, green and yellow cloth draped over Doğan’s tombstone was torn out by the soldiers, who also removed the carnations from the grave.
