The East Kurdistan Political Prisoners Assembly announced that an Iranian court sentenced two Kurdish imams to 12 years in prison.
In a written statement on Thursday, the East Kurdistan Political Prisoners Assembly reported that two imams, Loqman Amini and Ibrahim Karimi, had received heavy prison sentences.
The Iranian judiciary accused both imams of conducting propaganda against the government and inciting the public to organize protests in the eastern Kurdistan city of Sine.
In Iran, similar accusations are systematically and arbitrarily used against all dissidents. Suspects often receive decades-long prison sentences and even death sentences in show trials.
The Political Prisoners Assembly stated that Imam Loqman Amini was dismissed from office and sentenced to 11 years in prison, while Imam Ibrahim Karimi was also dismissed from office for two years and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
