The invasion attacks launched by the Turkish army against the Medya Defense Zones, the main base of the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrillas, have been continuing since April 14, 2022. Frustrated in the face of the resistance of the HPG and YJA Star guerrillas, the invading army resorts to the use of all kinds of chemical weapons and tactical nuclear bombs, including various heavy and technological weapons.
A video footage published by ANF on August 20, 2022 showed the Turkish army preparing tactical nuclear bombs and chemical weapons against the Martyr Hêjar battle tunnels in the Girê Hakkarî Resistance Area. The footage showed Turkish soldiers delicately carrying tactical nuclear bombs, which were connected to each other with cables, towards the entrance of the guerrillas' battle tunnels.
A new video footage shows the moment of the explosion of a tactical nuclear bomb used by the Turkish army against the Girê Martyr Zemanî battle positions located in the Girê Hakkarî Resistance Area. Although the explosion takes place 5 kilometres away, the camera recording it is shaken by the effect of the explosion.
TURKISH TROOPS WITHDREW BEFORE THE EXPLOSION
The Turkish troops in the region retreated before the explosion, the pressure of which was felt over a kilometres-wide area. The invading army, which seeks to destroy battle positions with nuclear bombs as a last resort in the face of the resistance of the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrillas, detonates a nuclear bomb at the entrance of a battle tunnel, in defiance of international laws.
Taking advantage of the indifference of world public opinion, the Turkish army has started to use tactical nuclear bombs and chemical weapons in guerrilla areas in recent months. According to the HPG statements and the reporters based in the region, the Turkish army has used more than 1,600 banned chemical weapons since April 14, 2022. Particularly the resistance positions in Werxelê, Şikefta Birîndara, Çiyayê Reş, Kurojahro, Çemço, Saca, Girê Cûdî, Girê FM, Girê Hekkarî and Girê Amediyê are bombed almost every day by tactical nuclear bombs and chemical weapons.
NATO HAS TACTICAL NUCLEAR BOMBS
"Strategic nuclear weapons" usually refer to nuclear weapons that can be launched over a long or intercontinental range, while "tactical nuclear weapons" or "tactical nuclear bombs" are designed for shorter ranges. Tactical nuclear weapons, which have an impact diameter of 1 to 3 km, are produced for brigade-sized units within NATO member armies and are considered a sort of mini-atomic bomb. Even though they are called tactical, they are often used for strategic purposes as well.
NATO member countries, especially the US, possess various kinds of tactical nuclear weapons that include short-range missiles, artillery shells and land mines. The smallest "tactical nuclear bomb" has an explosive yield of tens of tons of TNT. The Turkish army uses them to destroy battle tunnels, caves and crossing points in the base areas of the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrillas.
Last March, a retired Turkish army pilot, Lieutenant General Erdoğan Karakuş, admitted that Turkey was using tactical nuclear weapons in a TV program. “Our land forces have tactical nuclear weapons. They are launched by artillery units. Their explosive power is not high. The atomic bomb dropped on Japan was 20 kilotons, while these tactical nuclear weapons are only half kilotons.”
