10-year-old shot in the eye by police in Yüksekova

Police in Yüksekova attacked the youths protesting the visit of Turkish president Erdoğan and Prime Minister Davutoğlu yesterday

Police in Yüksekova attacked the youths protesting the visit of Turkish president Erdoğan and Prime Minister Davutoğlu yesterday. 10 year old Duran İşleyen was wounded in the eye by a rubber bullet fired by the police. The boy was taken to a hospital in Van after emergency treatment in Yüksekova hospital.

The youths protested Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu during their visit in Yüksekova, where they attended the opening ceremony of the airport, in criticism of turning the inauguration of an airport into a political propaganda before the elections. Police brutally attacked the protestors, opening fire with rubber bullets, as a result of which a 10 year old child, Duran İşleyen, was wounded in the eye with a rubber bullet directly aimed at him.

İşleyen was taken to Yüksekova Public Hospital by his family before being referred to Van Regional and Research Hospital following first treatment. The boy's father Kemal İşleyen told that his son was shot by police from an armoured vehicle who deliberately targeted him as he stood in front of their house.

The father said he would file a complaint about the police, and added that his son cannot open the eye at the moment, as he still remains in critical condition. İşleyen said “They shot a 10 year old boy in the eye. How could they ever dare to do so?”
