The Worker Health and Work Security Assembly released its grim report about casualties on workplaces for July. The report says at least 120 workers were killed from work-related incidents.
Eight of the victims were children and seven women.
The sector which claims most victims remains construction (41 people died in July), followed by agriculture (22), steel (22) and transport (10).
Istanbul, with 18 dead was the city which suffered most in July. It was followed by Izmir (9), Antalya (5), Aydin (5), Bursa (5), Konya (5), Mersin (5), Samsun (5).
The report highlights that 36 workers have died following accidents during their transport into work. These accidents have been reported as traffic accidents.
Three workers have committed suicide, and Bianet listed the reasons for the suicides like this: an education sector worker whose assignment have yet to be made, a BMC worker who hasn’t been paid for 10 months and whose rights struggle yielded no results and a senior policeman with 13 years of experience who were unable to pay his credit card bills.
According to Worker Health and Work Security Assembly, at least 848 workers were killed on the job in 2012.
