16 gang members killed in Efrin

Severe clashes broke out between YPG (People's Defense Units) and ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) in the west Kurdistan city Efrin on Monday.

Clashes first erupted following the offensive YPG launched against the ISIL headquarters near the Cindo village. Seven militants of the al-Qaeda linked ISIL were killed in the YPG operation.

Separate clashes broke out near the villages of Yazi Bax and Meerin where the gang groups launched attacks against the YPG headquarters in the area. Nine gang members were killed as YPG fighters responded to the attacks.

Armed gangs launched another attack targeting the YPG headquarters in Qestel Cindo village. Many ISIL members have been reported dead and wounded in clashes with YPG fighters who have repulsed the groups from the village.

Gang groups are reported to be continuing to launch artillery attacks targeting the village.
