25 lawyers among those detained in today’s operation

Among the more than one hundred people arrested in Turkey are 25 lawyers. In five cities, the offices of the lawyers' association ÖHD were searched by the police.

More than a hundred people have been taken into custody in Turkey in the course of an operation against the opposition, with a total of 216 names on the wanted list. In addition to politicians, journalists, activists and artists, lawyers are also affected. 25 lawyers have been taken into custody so far. The offices of the Lawyers' Association for Freedom (ÖHD) in Amed (Diyarbakır), Van, Urfa, Batman and Mardin were searched by police units.

In Amed, the door of the ÖHD branch was broken open and the police confiscated a computer as well as books, newspapers and documents. The search has now ended, but police barriers remain in front of the building.

The lawyers in police custody known by name so far are Mehmet Öner, Halise Dakalı, Özüm Vurgun, Bünyamin Şeker, Berdan Acun, Pirozhan Kaleli, Resul Temur, Fırat Taşkın, Salih Tekin, Sozan Acar, Büşra Eylül Özgültekin, Burhan Artan, Şerzan Yelboğa, Süleyman Şahin, Gülistan Ataş, Fırat Yıldız, Serhat Hezer, Kenan Aygay, Şirrin Şen, Bahar Okay, Gurbet Özbey and Ruşen Doğan from Amed, Metin Özbadem from Urfa and Kenan Anğay and Jiyan Samedoğlu from Mardin.

Lawyers are protesting against the operation in the run-up to the elections on 14 May in front of the court building in Amed and demanding the immediate release of those arrested. Protests are also taking place in numerous other cities.
