41 senators express their support for Afrin

41 senators have signed the petition launched by Senate Member Olivier Leonhardt calling the government to support Afrin.

The petition launched in the French Senate calling for a stop to the Turkish state and their mercenaries’ invasion attempt against Afrin.

Democratic and Social Europe Group member Oliver Leonhardt launched the petition in the Senate and it has been signed by 41 senators since.

The call to the French government points out the Kurds’ fight against ISIS gangs and stresses that thousands of Kurdish fighters have lost their lives. The call points out that the Kurds are subjected to attacks by the Erdoğan regime in Afrin and other places and stresses that the 800.000 Kurds, Arabs and other peoples living in the canton, as well as the refugees from other regions, are at risk.

The call points out that the attacks of Erdoğan and his regime are violations of international law and states that peace and stability in the region are under threat.

The senators issued the following call to the French government:

“Defending those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, showing solidarity with our allies and comrades at arms is a moral necessity for France, the US and all members of the International Coalition. It is time to break the silence of the international public in this attack and war. We implore France to raise her voice and to use all the influence she has in the United Nations Security Council and the European Union to demand the Turkish army retreat from Afrin and immediately stop their intervention.”

Various other senators are expected to join the call in the coming days.
