The preparatory committee of the Euphrates Canton Education Institution, together with students and educators from Kobanê University, kicked off the events to mark Kurdish Language Day on May 15.
Mazlum Cimo, a member of the Euphrates Canton Kurdish Language Institution (SZK), read a press statement at Şehit Egîd Square in the center of Kobanê.
“We celebrate May 15 Kurdish Language Day for all the martyrs, workers, fighters, Kurds, and all freedom fighters of Kurdistan,” the statement said.
The statement emphasized that the Kurdish language should be officially recognized in the new Syrian constitution and called for all teachers, intellectuals, students, and all those working for the Kurdish language to take responsibility for its development in order to advance the gains of the revolution at the highest scientific and academic levels.
The statement concluded: “As the preparatory committee for educational institutions in the Euphrates Canton, we are launching our Kurdish Language Day activities and calling on our community to ‘celebrate this day together.’ Long live the Kurdish language and the Kurdish Language Day.”
