43 organizations launch “#NoPasaran” campaign against Germany

Kurdish institutions are protesting Germany’s ban on Kurdish symbols and are fighting back legally and democratically.

A campaign has been launched on Friday kicked off with a Twitter campaign using the hashtag “#NoPasaran” at 20.30 local time. The goal is to reach two million people and enter the worldwide trending list.

43 Kurdistani, Turkish, Syriac/Assyrian, Armenian and German institutions formed a committee and will be holding a march tomorrow in Düsseldorf, Germany to protest the ban Germany issued on Kurdish symbols. The campaign uses the slogan “#NoPasaran” and will include social media efforts, legal action and democratic demonstrations. The kick-off has been with the hashtag #NoPasaran on Twitter Friday evening.

“ALL SHOULD SHOW THEIR PROTEST”

The Preparation Committee issued a statement and said the bans issued by the German police are antidemocratic, and continued: “Banning many of our symbols and humanitarian needs even though our march on November 4 has a permit is a political decision. This started with the 25th International Kurdish Culture Festival held on September 16. They want to make this practice, which has no place in Germany’s constitution, permanent through this method. The German police is holding Kurds under pressure with this arbitrary practice. This accelerated with the notice issued on March 2, with the ban they issued on PYD, YPG and YPJ flags and posters of Öcalan.”

The committee stated that they will be fighting the ban, and added:

“On November 1, we as the 43 institutions organizing the march, made a joint decision. Our shared view is that the goal here is to impose a repressive mindset on Kurds and all democratic circles. Germany wants to sacrifice Kurds and leftist institutions to mend their relationship with the AKP that suffered before the elections. We are launching a campaign to protest the Merkel government’s policies. There is a social media component to this campaign, and then there are legal and democratic dissent aspects. For that, everybody should be in Düsseldorf tomorrow. All should support the Leader against bans. Also in this framework, we have 10.000 letters prepared, participants can sign these tomorrow and we will be submitting them to the courts and other relevant institutions through our lawyers.”
