70-year-old mother of HDP MP arrested in Ankara

The mother of Kurdish parliamentarian Nurcan Imir (HDP) has been arrested at Ankara airport. The 70-year-old woman, who lives in Germany, is under investigation in Turkey on terror charges.

Kadriye Imir, mother of HDP deputy Nuran Imir, has been arrested in Ankara. The 70-year-old woman is subject to an arrest order approved by the 3rd Criminal Chamber in Ankara in connection with a trial on terrorism charges.

Kadriye Imir lives in Germany. On Saturday, she landed at the Esenboğa Airport at about 7:30 pm, where the check of her passport resulted in an alert for arrest. According to Nurcan Imir, her mother had apparently been wanted in Turkey since last year. She has not yet been able to obtain further information, as the investigation against Kadriye Imir is being conducted in secrecy.

Kadriye Imir travels to Turkey repeatedly and has not had any problems with the Turkish justice system so far. The 70-year-old suffers from various illnesses and had to undergo surgery in Germany only recently. Her daughter had therefore suggested that health care be provided in Turkey.
