763 NGOs release declaration against Ocalan’s isolation

A total of 763 non-governmental organizations in Diyarbakýr and the Kurdish region released a declaration against the severe isolation imposed on Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) Leader Abdullah Öcalan for the last one year.

The declaration against Ocalan’s isolation was announced with a press conference at Diyarbakýr office of the Association of Journalists of South-East Anatolia. Reading the declaration on behalf of all institutions, Human Rights Association (IHD) Diyarbakýr Branch Chair Raci Bilici called on the Turkish government to pave the way for Mr. Öcalan’s meeting with his lawyers so that the current political situation could give way to a new positive environment in Turkey.

The press conference was attended by Diyarbakýr Bar Association Chair Mehmet Emin Aktar, TUHAD-FED (Associations of Solidarity and Legal Aid for Families of Prisoners) President Zübeyde Teker, representatives of unions affiliated to KESK (Confederation of Public Workers’ Union) and workers’ unions, chambers of engineers affiliated to TMMOB and many non-governmental organizations in Diyarbakýr.

Calling attention to Turkey’s need for a permanent peace, Bilici underlined that; “We all know that clashes will not help to bring an end to any of our country’s problems, and the Kurdish problem in particular. We want to remind once again that we need to ensure dialogue to enable discussion and negotiations for a solution to the Kurdish issue.”

IHD Diyarbakýr Chair remarked that everyone in the country should act in responsibility and sensibility to ensure an environment without clashes.

Bilici pointed out that it is of vital importance to include effective actors in the way to a peaceful solution and ended calling on the government to provide necessary conditions for Ocalan’s involvement in this process.
