For the first time in 6 years, the Newroz fire was lit in Çukurca.
The Newroz fire was lit in the Çukurca district of Hakkari with the slogan "Dem dema serkeftinê (Now is the time to win)". Newroz celebration was held for the first time after 6 years in Emirbasan. Citizens attended the area decorated with yellow, red and green colors in their national clothes. In the celebration, the slogans “Bijî Serok Apo” and “Biji Newroz” were chanted frequently.
Before the celebration, the people of Çukurca danced halay accompanied by the songs played from the stage. The celebration started with a minute’s silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and democracy. Van Metropolitan Municipality co-mayor Mustafa Avcı, who was replaced by a state-appointed trustee, greeted the people. Drawing attention to the aggravated isolation imposed on Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan, Avcı said: “Mr. Öcalan can prevent the current war. This year's Newroz celebrations are also an indication of this.”
