KCK Executive Council has called for a demonstration on the anniversary of the Roboski massacre both to commemorate those who died and to protest against the Turkish state's attempts to create physical barriers between different parts of Kurdistan.
On 28 December 2011 34 Kurds were killed when they were bombed by Turkish war planes as they crossed the Iraq/Turkey border near the village of Roboski. The Turkish authorities are now constructing a wire fence along the border and building a road.
The KCK statement said:
“The Turkish state is now constructing a barbed wire fence on the Turkey-Iraq boder while it continues to build a wall on the Rojava border. This illustrates the Turkish state's attitude to the Kurdish people."

A new Lausanne will not work
These walls and fences demonstrate how weak the Turkish state's genocidal cultural colonialist system really is. They are finding it difficult to maintain the borders drawn at Lausanne with military posts. If they are planning a new Lausanne for the Kurds it will fail.
While on the one hand the AKP government says it is seeking a solution with the Kurdish Freedom Movement and the Kurdish people's leader, on the other it is waging a war against it on all fronts. This demonstrates its insincerity."

The Struggle against Walls is unfinished business
"Opposing the walls and uprooting the fences being constructed has become a matter of honour. Ayşe Gökkan took a stance against the wall being constructed in Nusaybin, but this has not been maintained. It is unacceptable that construction of this wall and others on the Kobani and Afrin borders is continuing."

March to Roboski
"As the anniversary of the Roboski massacre approaches our people should march to the borders to demolish the walls and not permit them to be built. It will not be possible to develop the struggle for democracy unless this is done. Consequently, the demolishing of walls and fences should be seen as an integral part of the struggle for freedom and democracy."
