A park in French capital Paris was named after Kurdish director, actor, scenarist and novelist Yılmaz Güney.

A park in French capital Paris was named after Kurdish director, actor, scenarist and novelist Yılmaz Güney.

The inauguration of the 'Yılmaz Güney Park' was organised by 10th arrondissement of Paris Municipality and attended by Mayor of the 10th arrondissement of Paris Remi Ferraut, Gilles Mitterand from Mitterand family, Yılmaz Güney's wife Fatoş Güney, director Costa Gavras who shared a Golden Palm with Güney in Cannes in 1982, representatives of Democratic Kurdish Council in France (CDK-F), Paris Kurdish Institute, ACORT, DİDİF and ACTIT.

Speaking at the inauguration of the park in Saint-Denis, Mayor of the 10th arrondissement of Paris, Remi Ferraut saluted the resistance of the Kurdish people.

Ferraut said they were happy and honoured to name the park after Kurdish director Yılmaz Güney who lived in exile and lost his life in Paris.

The inauguration was accompanied by an exhibition of Yılmaz Güney cinema photography as well as performances by Paris Democratic Kurdish Society Center TEV-ÇAND music bands Lîlav, Zazlooz and singer Farqin.
