Abducted teachers to be released soon, say HPG

Making a statement following some actions staged against the Turkish education system, the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) Headquarters Command said that the abductions of teachers have to be interpreted as a warning.

HPG said that the teachers are safe and will be released soon as they are not the target of the actions. HPG remarked that they will show no tolerance for the efforts towards "Turkization" by the State.

The statement titled “We target the pro-Turkish ideology” said the followings; “State officials themselves reflected to the public many times that the Turkish state, which holds Kurdistan under exploitation, tries to create people drawn away from the Kurdish identity through assimilationist policies.

Assimilation is based on the prohibition of the native language, creation of people unaware of their own history, acceptance of disidentification, persuasion for living without a status and "Turkization" which is first put into practice at Turkish educational institutions and schools. In all Turkish educational establishments in Kurdistan and at public boarding schools in particular, the state deliberately applies a policy of education that falsifies the Kurdish history, causes students forget their mother tongue and draws them away from their identities.”
