Activists from Freiburg take over Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan Vigil in Strasbourg

A group of activists from Freiburg took over the Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan Vigil in Strasbourg in week 507. The group drew attention to the importance of Kurdish national unity.

The Freedom for Öcalan Initiative launched the Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan Vigil on 25 June 2012 in Strasbourg. The vigil has entered week 507.

This week, members of the Democratic Kurdish Community Center in Freiburg, Germany, took over the action. The group includes Hüseyin Bafe, Ibrahim Bafe and Cafer Nas.

'Victory will come under the leadership of women'

Speaking on behalf of the group, Hüseyin Bafe celebrated 8 March, International Working Women's Day and said: "The freedom struggle of the Kurdish people will triumph under the leadership of women."

Pointing out that the action carried out where European institutions are located is a duty for all Kurds, Bafe said: "The freedom of Leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan] means the freedom of all of us."

Emphasizing that the Kurdish people should get together for their freedom and ensure national unity, Bafe said: "Everyone must fight against the invasion and massacre attacks carried out by the Turkish state."

The Freedom for Öcalan Vigil is held every day between 7.30 am and 4.30 pm. During the vigil, leaflets prepared in different languages ​​not only explain the Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan's paradigm but also draw attention to his 24 years of captivity. The action also protests the silence of Europe against the crimes against humanity committed by the Turkish state against the Kurdish people, while calling on the institutions to fulfil their responsibilities.
