Activists in Bologna celebrate 10 years of the Revolution in Rojava

The activities for the tenth anniversary of the Rojava revolution continued in Europe on Wednesday. In Italy people have been celebrating the revolution and expressing solidarity for days.

On July 19th, the celebration of the Rojava revolution in Bologna began with a protest on the main square of the city. Activists from many different political organizations came together to stand with the continued struggle of the people in Rojava/North- East Syria and the self-defense forces YPG and YPJ. They proclaimed their solidarity with loud chants of "Biji Rojava", "Biji PKK" and "Jin, Jiyan, Azadi".

In their speeches they condemned the NATO memorandum between Turkey, Sweden and Finland and the hypocrisy of the Italian Draghi government, which intensified its relations with the fascist Turkish regime through bilateral cooperation, while further criminalizing the Kurdish movement and solidarity works with Rojava in Italy. The activists then called on everyone to defend the revolution and its achievements against all forces that try to destroy it - but never will.

On July 20th the celebrations continued with an event in the social center, Labas. Many people came together for a benefit dinner to collect funds for the mobile clinic of the free women in Rojava. A mural was painted on the wall of the social center to create a lasting memory of the 10th anniversary. Also, an exhibition called "Remembering is Resistance" about the remembrance culture of the Kurdish movement was displayed, which included individual stories of Kurdish and Internationalist Sehid, to commemorate and honour them: Sehid Namirin! At the end of the evening, the film "Ji Bo Azadiye - The End will be Spectacular" by the Rojava Film Commune was shown in the backgarden.

The activists resumed that the evening gave them new energy for the revolutionary and defense work in Bologna and strengthened the feeling of togetherness. One activist stated that "the revolution is a source of hope and inspiration for us. It lets us imagine a world without patriarchy, states, capitalism and violence. Therefore, we will always defend the revolution together with the people of Rojava".
