The 42nd anniversary of the PKK was celebrated in Rome. Kurds and Italians attended the celebration held at the Ararat Kurdish Cultural Center. The celebration, which started with a minute silence, continued with the screening of a collection of speeches by Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Speaking afterwards, politician Cemşid Serhad reminded of the many Kurdish revolts against the occupying and colonial states in Kurdistan and said that most of the rebellions were suppressed. Expressing that the PKK represents the biggest Kurdish rebellion in Kurdistan, Serhat added: “The Kurdish people were confronted with extinction through the assimilation policies launched by the colonialist states. The struggle that started under the leadership of Leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan] went from resurgence to resistance.”
Indicating that the PKK is a dynamic force in 4 parts of Kurdistan today, Serhat said: “The PKK represents a new life model that influences many peoples of the Middle East and the world. The revolution in Rojava developed against the reactionary, fascist, colonialist, nation-state mentality and capitalist modernity. Democratic modernity, which is the hope and liberation for many exploited and oppressed peoples in the Middle East and the world, represents a new hope in our world with the ideas of democratic nation and women leadership.”
