The sit-in protest which has been held every Wednesday since January 25, 2021 in front of the United Nations (UN) office in Geneva, Switzerland for the freedom of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan continued this week.
The sit-in started with a minute’s silence in memory of those who were massacred during the Dersim Genocide, Mehmet Karasungur and İbrahim Bilgin who were murdered by collaborative forces on May 2, 1983, and all May Martyrs.
Geneva Kurdish Community Centre (CDK) Co-Chair Mülkiye Bulut made a speech during this week’s protest and said the following:
“Today, the world remains silent, as it used to in the past, towards attacks on the four parts of Kurdistan, particularly in Medya Defense Zones. We, as the Kurdish people, will continue to expose the occupying and murderous forces in front of the UN which supports these attacks and to embrace the guerrilla struggle with our actions. We will defend the honour, land and identity of the people of Şengal, just as we defended them against the barbarian ISIS attacks before. No matter where the attacks come from, the occupying forces will be defeated by the resistance of the Kurdish people. Long live the PKK, the guerrillas, and Abdullah Öcalan.”
“Our people should be ready to stage protests against the invasion attacks at any time,” CDK Co-Chair Erdal Atasoy said in a following speech.
After the speeches, the Kurdish activists turned their backs on the UN office in protest at the organization’s silence on the crimes committed against the Kurdish people in their ancient lands.
