Ahmet Türk: We won’t watch from the sidelines, we will intervene

Mardin Co-mayor Ahmet Türk announced that they stand with democracy in the Istanbul elections. Türk said they are monitoring the process closely and that they “won’t watch from the sidelines” and that they “will intervene”.

HDP’s Mardin Co-mayor Ahmet Türk attended the party’s efforts for Istanbul and met with academics, intellectuals and businesspeople in a hotel.

The HDP committee was made up of Ahmet Türk, Diyarbakir MP Musa Farisogullari, Caucus members, Peace Mothers and party officials.

Türk pointed to the Kurds’ situation and the developments in the Middle East and said: “We all must see that without democracy, it won’t be easy to get out of the quicksand of the Middle East. As such, our struggle is a struggle for democracy.”

Türk stressed that the reason HDP still stands is that the party draws strength from the people and added that they present a third option, stating that it is “a move geared towards embracing the forces of democracy in Turkey”.

Türk said Kurdish voters’ choice in Istanbul is very significant: “We are working so our vote has meaning. We are working so our vote affects the outcome.”

Türk continued: “That is why we are on the side of democracy in these elections. We stand against injustice, unlawfulness and tyranny. We put forth our colors. We are sending a message an understanding that doesn’t understand Kurds, that is hostile and exclusionary against Kurds.”

Türk concluded with: “I believe that our people will make their choice on the side of democracy and justice. There is no sense in discussing this much further. The will belongs to the people. Our people will go to the polls with their own free will, and I’m sure their choice will be on the side of democracy.

Sometimes a pathway opens rapidly for change and transformation, or there are rapid developments. We must monitor these processes closely.  We won’t watch from the sidelines, we will intervene. Politicians will either accept this, or they won’t be able to govern Turkey anymore.”
