Ahmet Türk: Erdoðan becoming more intimidating, not all-embracing

Speaking to Daily Akþam paper on Saturday, Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-Chair and Mardin deputy Ahmet Türk said that he doesn’t agree with the idea that Prime Minister Erdoðan has an intention to resolve the Kurdish problem.

Underlining that the responsibility of bringing the Kurdish issue to a solution belongs to the state and the government, Türk added that Erdoðan has recently become more eliminative and intimidating, following a way on the contrary side of a solution.

“The speeches of the Prime Minister in the last two years contain insults targeting Kurds, which doesn’t give any confidence at all. He has followed a hostile approach towards the BDP which aims to resolve the problem. His anger and hostility of Kurds don’t point to an intention of coming up with a solution. However, the only way to resolve the Kurdish problem is to establish dialogue.”, underlined Türk and contradicted the statements of Leyla Zana who has recently expressed her hope that Erdoðan could bring the Kurdish issue to a solution.

“Mrs. Zana drew attention to some truths in her statements but I don’t agree that Erdoðan has an intention to resolve this problem, as he has avoided using an all-embracing language. He has, on the contrary, taken a more insulting approach and become more eliminative and intimidating.

Türk also evaluated the CHP-AKP meeting on the Kurdish problem and called attention to the importance of dialogue between parties; “We have always sided with dialogue among all sides but we don’t side with a dialogue excluding Kurds who are the true party of the issue. It will be neither realistic nor sincere to seek a solution without Kurds.”
