Akat Ata: Batman investigation superficial

Ayla Akat Ata, a Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Coordination Commission Member, voiced her concern that the authorities are not thoroughly investigating the events in Batman on September 26. Three civilians, a police officer and two People’s Defense Force (HPG) members died as a result of a clash.

Ata met the witnesses and people who were wounded, immediately after event occurred. She said that their silence is suspicious and suggested that they might be forced into not speaking.

Because of her suspicions about the investigations, Ata required and met Batman Public Prosecutor. She said: "We recommend that the prosecutor to collect all the evidence. We have the suspicion that evidence is being withheld or tampered with."

Ata asked three questions about the investigations of the clash:

1. The State initially said that they did not have any information of records of the event. However, three days after the event, camera records emerged. Why did authorities wait for three days?

2. Why was the car not stopped out of the city instead of in the city despite the fact that the license plate was suspect?

3. Family members made some very important statements off-the-record day after the event. Why did family members say nothing about the event officially or in front of cameras?

Ata said, "One construction worker was captured alive and then killed by police. The camera footage clearly indicate that the builder was killed by police. Evidence should be collected in an impartial way."
