AKP (Justice and Development Party) Diyarbakýr deputy Galip Ensarioðlu who is often criticized for remaining silent about AKP regime’s attacks on Kurds and other opposition issued a statement on the Diyarbakýr Governor’s ban on BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) and DTK (Democratic Society Congress) rally scheduled for 14 July.
Kurdish deputy Ensarioðlu said he didn’t consider the prohibition reasonable and drew attention to the importance of all political parties’ right to organize a meeting. “Government authorities are responsible for taking necessary precautions to avoid and counter provocation, but not for denying the right to have a meeting. I hope the ban on the meeting will be withdrawn”, said AKP deputy and added that he didn’t expect the demonstrators to cause tension and material damage in the city should the ban stay in place.
The governor of Diyarbakýr denied permission for the “Democratic Resistance for Freedom” rally on 14 July saying he had intelligence information on the possible presence of illegal groups and organizations that would try to get people on the streets by misleading them, would confront security forces and stage illegal activities and actions.
Following the announcement of the governor prohibition, BDP and DTK said the decision was a provocation and pointed out that the Kurdish people will nevertheless use their democratic rights and their constitutional right to stage a demonstration and voice their demands.
