Al-Sadr difficult coalition government

The Communist Party, al-Sadr ally, uncomfortable with Fatah coalition.

Over a month has passed since the parliamentary elections and Iraq still hasn’t got a government.

Shia leader, Moqtada al-Sadr, who won the election with the Sairoun coalition list he established with the Communist party, has been dealing with different coalitions and parties seeking to form a coalition government.

Now things seem to be set: al-Sadr has announced a coalition government with Fatah alliance’s leader Hadi Amiri. Fatah is known for its links with Iran.

After al-Sadr's announcement of the agreement reached with Hadi Amiri, the Iraqi Communist Party has expressed its dislike for the alliance. “If our demands are not accepted - said the party in a statement - we will be forced to think about every option including withdrawal from the coalition. If necessary - the statement added - we will peacefully withdraw from the coalition and undertake tour task in the opposition bench”.

Curiously enough the statement did not mention what the party’s demands are.

Moqtada al-Sadr and Hadi Amiri announced on 12 June that they had reached an agreement to form a coalition.
