Speaking to ANF about the recent developments on Syria crisis, Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) Council member Aldar Xelil remarked that Turkey wants a war in Syria, that's the reason of the provocation: for it obtained no results with the policies implemented so far.
After being caught unprepared for the developments in the Middle East, Turkey now intends to regain its power on Syria, underlined Xelil and said that Turkey included the Syrian regime in the struggle against the Kurdish liberation struggle. “The Syrian regime’s attacks, slaughters and arrests of Kurds gave confidence to Turkey, and enabled both countries to develop political and diplomatic relations before the beginning of internal opposition process in Syria on 15 March 2011. However, with the beginning of this process, Turkey’s dishonesty came into the open with the statements and promises it made to provide all kinds of support for the armed struggle of opposition powers in Syria. We have enough information and documents confirming that Turkey is as responsible as the Syrian regime for the deaths in Syria”, said Xelil.
Turkey is the major power that has followed the tactics of dragging Syria into a civil strife and war and thus prevented the Syrian opposition from giving a fight through democratic politics methods, underlined Xelil and added that; “Turkey’s plan however didn’t work out because of the social, political and geopolitical circumstances in Syria. The main reason of this plan was to prevent the Syrian Kurds from gaining an acquisition, which left Turkey alone and excluded in the policy on Syria.”
Change is inevitable in Syria where Kurds will establish the system of democratic autonomy and counter Turkish state’s destruction policy in Northern Kurdistan, underlined Xelil and noted that Turkey, as it knows this, now attempts to start a new phase based on provocation.
Xelil in this respect pointed to the incident of Turkish reconnaissance airplane which was shot down by Syrian forces last week and commented this incident as an “Ottoman game” aiming to kill two birds with one stone; “The first purpose is to ensure NATO decision for an external military intervention on Syria and to lead this intervention. The other purpose is to put NATO against Russia and its policy on Syria.”
Turkey is now deploying troops on the border because this “Ottoman game” has in fact not worked out, pointed out Xelil denouncing the ‘reasonable grounds’ Turkey has put forward for the military build-up on Syrian border. Xelil also noted that Turkey’s second provocation will be made on the grounds of activities by the Kurds in Western Kurdistan and added the followings:
“Turkey will continue to be a party of the civil war in Syria. Democratic public opinion should follow developments in the Middle East looking at the political realities in the region, not the statements of the AKP and its leader Erdoðan. The right approach in this respect will be to evaluate the situation in Syria and Turkey in the context of all regional developments.”
