Appeal to step up aid for Kobanê people in Suruç
The Rojava and Sinjar Central Coordination has issued an appeal for urgent foodstuffs and other basic materials to be sent for the people from Kobanê who have taken refuge in Suruç. Coordination member Hüseyin Yılmaz called for people to come to Kobanê to see what is going on and to observe the plight of the refugees in Suruç.
The Rojava and Sinjar Central Coordination has for more than 2 months mobilised in Suruç for the people of Kobanê who were forced to leave their homes by ISIS attacks. The Central Coordination distributes the aid that comes from Europe, Turkey and all four parts of Kurdistan DBP Party Assembly and Local Authorities Commission member and Rojava and Sinjar Central Coordination member Hüseyin Yılmaz told our news agency about the needs of the people from Kobanê.
‘Basic things are needed’
Yılmaz said they were preparing to open a 6th tent city for 8 to 10 thousand people and that tents sent by Heyva Sor had been set up and the infrastructure of the tent city completed. Yılmaz added: “We try to meet the needs of the people from Kobanê from the central coordination. Blankets, stoves and clothing are priorities. We now have enough.” He said that stocks of rice, chickpeas, beans, oil, olives, cheese and baby food were low and urgently needed replenishing.
Yılmaz added that they had heard aid was being collected by various organisations, but that they wanted aid to be channelled through their coordination. He said: “We do not collect money, we concentrate on foodstuffs”. He added that those who wanted to make financial donations should send them to the bank account set up by the Amed Metropolitan Municipality, and not to other individuals or organisations.
‘Come to Suruç to see the plight of the people of Kobanê!’
Yılmaz said the struggle of the people of Kobanê was not just one for the Kurds, but was also a noble resistance on behalf of all the people of the world. He said that despite people being savagely slaughtered in Kobanê there had been a muted reaction. He added: “There is a noble struggle being waged in Kobanê for democracy and freedom. Kobanê is crucial both for the national unity of the Kurds and for the peaceful coexistence of different communities in the Middle East.”
Yılmaz called on everyone to come to the border to see Kobanê under fire and observe the plight of the people from Kobanê who are living in Suruç.
