Pervin Buldan: Commission negotiations must begin immediately

Pervin Buldan, a member of the DEM Party’s Imralı Delegation, expressed support for MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli’s call for the establishment of a parliamentary commission related to the ongoing process.

Speaking to T24, Pervin Buldan, a member of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Imralı Delegation, commented on Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chair Devlet Bahçeli’s call to establish a commission in Parliament.

Buldan said they found this proposal constructive and supported it, adding: "Bahçeli has voiced what should be done. We’ve always maintained that the real venue for a solution is Parliament. It is very important to give this substance through the formation of a commission."

Buldan noted that there is broad consensus among political parties regarding the commission and called on the AKP (Justice and Development Party), saying: "They should express their position without delay."

Emphasizing the urgency of starting the negotiations, Buldan added: "Negotiations for establishing the commission must begin as soon as possible. As Mr. Bahçeli indicated it should be brought to Parliament immediately. Of course, it should be discussed and negotiated in advance. Mr. Bahçeli mentioned a commission of 100 people and subcommissions. Of course, the numbers and methods can be debated. But we fully agree with the idea that each political party should appoint a member, that subcommittees should support the main commission, and that the Speaker of Parliament should chair it."

Buldan continued: "Necessary legal regulations for democratization must be discussed through a commission. There is a real need for this. The Republican People’s Party (CHP) also states that a commission should be formed in Parliament. Mr. Babacan and Mr. Davutoğlu have always had a positive approach to the process. I don’t believe they will remain indifferent or object to it. Therefore, AKP must express its views without delay. It’s important that this commission be established before the end of this legislative term. Parliament will work until July 15. Establishing the commission by then and starting its general work would positively contribute to the process. Turkey needs democratization. Steps taken toward solving the Kurdish issue also mean taking steps toward democratization. There is a need for regulations that, without making any distinctions, will address the deadlocks in the resolution of the Kurdish issue and advance democratization."
