A number of artists and actors joined the call to release sick prisoners. Mert Fırat, Altan Erkekli, Aylin Aslım and Ezel Akay asked the AKP government to release the sick prisoners and act as it is deemed proper.

Hundreds of sick prisoners are jailed in Turkish and Kurdish prisons, as human rights associations have long being denouncing.

Artist Mert Fırat summed up the plight of sick prisoners saying that "it means in this country death penalty is actually still on".

The artists denounce the long time prisoners have to wait even to be given medical treatment. "This is something which goes beyond humanity, it is an other form of torture", they said.
