French capital Paris was hit by a series of devastating attacks Friday night in what is called the deadliest incident since World War II. At least 120 people have reportedly lost their lives and 180 others were wounded, 80 of whom remain in critical condition.
The terror attacks began with 2 suicide attacks and 1 bombing outside Stade de France stadium north of Paris during a France-Germany friendly football match.
Assailants later targeted the “Le Carillon” restaurant in the 10th arrondissemen where 18 people have been reported killed as a result of gun attacks.
The wave of attacks furthermore targeted Bataclan concert hall during a rock concert performance by US rock band Eagles of Death Metal. Between 80 and 100 people in the concert venue were first taken hostage and then killed by assailants who reportedly detonated explosive belts, making the hall the deadliest scene of the coordinated attacks which was later stormed by anti-terrorist commandos. The hall is near the former offices of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, target of a deadly attack by Islamist gunmen in January. Attacks on the Charlie Hebdo newspaper and a kosher supermarket in Paris in January killed 18 people.
French President Francois Hollande who called the assault an unprecedented barbaric terrorist attack declared a state of emergency declared across France, while borders were also closed immediately to stop people leaving the country. Speaking during his visit to Bataclan music hall, Hollande vowed that the government would wage a "merciless" fight against terrorism.
The Paris metro railway was closed and schools, universities and municipal buildings were ordered to stay shut on Saturday.
As 8 assailants have been reported dead, eyewitnesses say that they expressed support for ISIS while carrying out attacks.
