AvEG-Kon on one month solidarity hunger strike

Members of the AvEG-Kon went on hunger strike for one month demanding the end of isolation from Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

AvEG-Kon member Özkan Özdemir went on indefinite hunger strike on 1 April and his action is being joined by other activists. Young Struggle spokesperson Bilen Ceyran and Swiss BEKSAM President Gülten Yavuz went on a 1 month solidarity hunger strike. 

In the press conference they held at ACTIT, AvEG-Kon co-chair Birsel Ocak commemorated revolutionaries Deniz Gezmiş, Hüseyin İnan, Yusuf Aslan who were hanged on 6 May 1972 in Turkey and death faster Hüseyin Kayacı. Members of CDK-F were also at the press conference. 

Ocak said: “This honorable resistance is to demand the end of the isolation of Mr Öcalan, but is also against the harassment of prisoners, against the repression of social opposition, against the violence of the police and soldiers, for the end of the massacres. It is a humanitarian duty to join this resistance, supporting it and demanding that the demands of the hunger strikers are met."

Young people should step up the struggle

Speaking in French Bilen Ceyran said that the struggle against isolation and fascism should be raised by young people.

President of BEKSAM and SKB member Gülten Yavuz said: "Fighting against isolation is an inevitable task today.

Our resistance will not end

SAG hunger striker Özkan Özdemir said: “The fascist power was thinking to break this resistance but instead we are determined to continue our action with and as the comrades in prison said, we won’t end our resistance. 

The hunger strike will be continued at ACTIT premises in Paris.
