Ban Ki-Moon calls for immediate action for Kobanê

In a statement on most recent developments in the Kobanê Canton of West Kurdistan, Rojava, the Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon called for an immediate action to protect the beleaguered civilian population of the town besieged by ISIS militants.

"The secretary-general is following with grave concern the ongoing offensive by ISIL (the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) on the northern Syrian town of Ayn al-Arab, which has already resulted in massive displacement of civilians, including into Turkey, and numerous deaths and injuries," said the statement issued on Monday.

The statement added that in light of the gross and extensive violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, the ISIS has committed in areas that have fallen under its control in Syria and Iraq during its barbarous campaign.

The UN Secretary General urgently called on all those with the means to take immediate action to protect the beleaguered civilian population of Kobanê.
