BDP Conference on Local Governance to take place in Diyarbakýr

In a press release on Wednesday, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) announced that the BDP Conference on Local Governance will take place at Diyarbakýr Cegêrxwin Cultural Center on 01-03 June 2012. The BDP statement remarked that the conference will be held with an aim to discuss the practices of BDP’s sense of local governance and to address the processes of a democratic, free and equalitarian future.

The statement underlined that the model put forward by BDP for local governance bases on social organization and an attitude that goes beyond the usual concept of local governances in line with its participative, democratic, ecological, gender libertarian and equalitarian paradigm.

Noting that anti-democratic, unlawful policies of intimidation have targeted BDP’s local governments because of this model which prioritizes an alternative living, the statement added that “The concept of repression and intimidation, which started soon after the great achievement by BDP in March 2009 elections, have turned into operations of political slaughter that have tried to completely eliminate BDP’s model on local governments.”

The statement reminded that hardly a day passes without an operation against BDP local governments, and pointed out that; “No country with a claim of advanced democracy has ever arrested hundreds of elected mayors, city council members, provincial council chairs and municipal officials.”

The BDP statement ended underlining that the BDP has determinedly maintained its progression despite all detentions, arrests, repressions and policies of intimidation it has faced to date.
