Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) has completed its preparations for its 2nd Congress on September 4.
The congress will open under the slogan "We greet the Democratic Autonomy and the Democratic Republic” and will be dedicated to the murdered Van Provincial Councillor Ayhan Yýldýrým.
The congress will take place in a time of intense and bitter developments and it aims to create an effective, consistent and labor-centered council within the BDP party.
The congress would elect 80 permanent and 40 substitute members to the party council.
Former deputy Mahmut Alýnak has applied for the Co-Chairmanship post, but it is expected that Selahattin Demirtaþ and Gültan Kýþanak will be elected as Co-Chairs of the congress.
The amendments on legislation and program of the congress are expected to be based on the “Democratic Autonomy" declared by the DTK (Democratic Society Congress). Indeed the "Democratic Autonomy" proposal will have a special place in the congress discussion.
Besides Ayhan Yildirim, the congress will also remember Kurdish politicians such as Hüsnü Ablay, Cihan Deniz, Mazlum Doðan and Sema Yüce who are the symbol names of the Kurdish struggle.
Invitations to the congress were prepared in both Kurdish and Turkish languages and it is believed that numerous political parties, NGO representatives, individuals, foreign delegations will be attending the meeting. Also MIT (National Intelligence Organization) former Undersecretary Cevat Öneþ is said to be expected to attend the congress.
While over 60 local and foreign press representatives have asked for accreditation to the congress, the BDP has for the first time applied embargo on a media outlet. The daily newspaper Yeni Þafak which has targeted the party and Kurdish politicians in the last months of conflict. A recent headline was "You are the murderer", indicating the BDP as responsible for deaths and war.
