Þýrnak Mayor Ramazan Uysal, Silopi Mayor Emin Toðurlu and Ýdil Mayor Resul Sadak were remanded in custody accused of links with the KCK (Kurdish Communities Union, prosecutors said is a political umbrella organization that includes the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK)). Chairman of the BDP's Silopi branch Bahattin Alkýþ, the BDP's Þanlýurfa Chairman Adnan Etli and the BDP's Siirt Chairman Faruk Saðlamthe were also detained on Friday.
As part of the investigation conducted by the Diyarbakýr Prosecutor's Office, police raided the homes BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) mayors and executives.
A total of 23 BDP members were questioned on Friday at Þanlýurfa's Suruç Police Station, and six of them were sent to jail, including Etli and Saðlam, for alleged links to the PKK.
The detentions follow last week’s anti-KCK operation in Þýrnak in which more than 50 people were detained for suspected links with the KCK. The arrest of 47 of the detainees was ordered by a court.
Nearly 31 people, including officials from the BDP, were detained on Thursday in Izmir. A total of 368 people have been detained since September 12 as part of the KCK investigation and that 88 of those have been arrested.
