BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) mayors will embark on a three-day hunger strike in the BDP Kayapýnar Branch building in Diyarbakýr. The hunger strike will begin today and it is called in solidarity with the hunger strikers in prisons. Over 400 prisoners, including three deputies and mayors, are currently on an indefinite hunger strike to protest against the isolation of PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) leader Abdullah Öcalan and to demand an end to the military and political operations.
Hunger strikes also continue outside prisons with new groups taking over in Diyarbakýr, Malatya, Hakkari, Batman, Nusaybin, Cizre, Doðubayazýt, Viransehir and Baþkale.
