BDP voters in Elazig will boycott elections as candidate excluded

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Elazig Provincial Department reported that they will not go to the polls in Elazýg at June 12 elections in connection with the cancellation of Isa Gürbüz’s independent candidature by the Supreme Election Board (YSK).

Holding a press conference at the party building, BDP Elazig Provincial Chair Mehmet Kýlýctepe remarked that Isa Gürbüz’s candidature was vetoed by the YSK on April 18 although there was no legal obstacle before Gürbüz’s candidature. Following the protest demonstrations against the veto decision, YSK had reinstated 6 of the 7 candidates supported by the BDP.

Emphasizing that Elazig is an important province, Kýlýctepe said the followings; “Following the finalization of the cancellation decision, we held talks with the authorized bodies of the party and ensured a common consensus. Against all these anti-democratic attitudes and a new denial and destruction concept, voting will not be useful for peoples, cultures and beliefs in our province where the independent candidate doesn’t participate in the elections.

Concluding that the election is held rather for delaying the public, I am calling out to all patriots, democrats and every ‘human’ to support our boycott decision and not to go to the pools”.
