Bern: Thousands protest against Turkish invasion of Rojava

Answering the call of 81 organizations, thousands of people with YPG and YPJ flags took to the streets in Bern against the occupation of Rojava. The Swiss government was called upon to impose sanctions against Turkey.

In Bern, capital city of Switzerland, thousands of people protested against the Turkish invasion of northern Syria. 81 organisations had called for the demonstration. The opening rally at Schützenmatte began with a minute's silence for the martyrs of revolution. Speakers expressed solidarity with the resistance in Northern Syria and the democratic system in Rojava.

The demo was followed by a march to the Parliament. The participants displayed banners, signs and flags of the YPG/YPJ and received applause from passers-by.

At the final rally, a speech on behalf of Amnesty International drew attention to Turkey's serious war crimes in northern Syria. Socialist politician Ursula Marti called for sanctions against Turkey and an UN- mediated peace settlement.

Rojbîn Yusuf of TEV-DEM (Democratic Society Movement) who addressed the crowd on the phone described the campaign in Northern Syria as a crime against humanity.

Further speeches were given by a brother of Ali Wazir, who was seriously injured in Geneva in a self-immolation action in protest against the UN's inaction, and the brother of the Kurdish politician Havrin Khalaf, who was brutally murdered by Turkey’s mercenaries in Northern Syria.
