Block to become Congress movement

Labor, Freedom and Democracy Block has adopted a decision to change into a Congress movement. Announcing the decision to the public with a statement, the Block stated that the decision aims to “create a social and political option through Congress against the existing adversary political regime which is based on oppression and exploitation and to raise parliamentary democratic struggles and civil commotions on the basis of this social basis”.

The statement emphasized that the Congress process has a priority and “the party organism should follow the decision of the Congress”.

The statement by the Congress Preparatory Group said; “The association of Turkey’s all colors and democracy powers on the side of peace and a free and equal life will be the most significant response to be given to the policies that intend to drag Turkey into a civil war”.

The statement continues as follows:

Our Congress works have been started with the call of a coordination that includes BDP-Block deputies Gültan Kýþanak, Levent Tüzel, Sebahat Tuncel, Sýrrý Süreyya Önder and Ertuðrul Kürkçü.

Following the meeting we held in Istanbul on 20 August 2011, we made a decision to take steps towards the gathering of a Congress which will be organized starting from locals and consist of all political parties and groups that are components of the Freedom and Democracy Block, trade unions, representatives of labor and trade associations, socialists, democrats, revolutionaries, greens, anarchists, feminists, war resisters, women's movements, LGBT organizations, environmental and ecological strugglers, the disabled, Alewi associations and formations, representatives and opinion leaders of Armenian, Assyrian, Circassian, Georgian, Laz, and Arab communities, intellectuals and academicians.

During the meeting we held on August 20, we also evaluated the political process. The prominence of war policies in Turkey is not a coincidence in the current process when the Middle East is intended to be redesigned, marked the participators and expressed the following opinions.

As Turkey's democratic resistance forces, we will sit back and watch the AKP government suppress the Kurdish people's democratic demands through policies of violence and drag Turkey into a civil war. Our strength, labor and commitment will always stand by peace and against war.”
