Call for participation in the ‘Freedom for Öcalan’ demonstration in Vienna on 2 November

Civaka Azad co-chairs called for strong participation in the demonstration to be held in Vienna on 2 November to demand “Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan”.

A march will be organised in Austria with the slogan ‘From Free Kobanê to Free Leader’ to demand the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and celebrate the 10th anniversary of Kobanê victory.

A written statement made by Civaka Azad co-chairs regarding the march said: “As we entered the 21st century, the capitalist modernity system wanted to redesign the Middle East. However, one of the biggest obstacles to this project was the Kurdish freedom movement and Rêber Apo (Leader Abdullah Öcalan). For this reason, an international conspiracy was carried out against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan on 9 October 1998. 26 years have passed since this conspiracy, but neither the Greater Middle East Project has been realised nor peace has been established. On the contrary, the Middle East geography has been turned into a bloodbath during this period of time. War and conflicts are being deepened today. The system that has kept Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan in Imrali island for more than a quarter of a century does not obey any law or rule.”

The statement drew attention to the inhuman isolation in İmralı and said, “For 44 months, no information has been received from Rêber Apo. The anger and concerns of the Kurdish people about the well-being of Leader Apo is increasing every day and they can no longer accept this situation.”

The statement continued: “In order to end the International Conspiracy, to break the isolation and to ensure the physical freedom of Rebêr Apo, we, as Civaka Azad Austria, will organise a big freedom march in Vienna on 2 November. Our target for this march is 10 thousand people. Our Austrian assembly and components are making serious preparations for the march. Buses have been hired in different cities of Austria to transport the masses to the area. Those coming by their private vehicles are being coordinated, as well as the masses coming by train.

We will organise public meetings in many regions in order to raise the awareness of our people about the freedom of Rêber Apo and to ensure mass participation in the march.

We appeal to all patriotic Kurdish people living in Austria. Let us not remain silent against the isolation and all the unlawfulness against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan. Let us raise our demand for freedom by participating in this march. Let us not forget that the freedom of Rêber Apo is the freedom of the Kurdish people. The isolation imposed on Rêber Apo is directed against the entire Kurdish people.

We also invite all friendly organisations, trade unions, parties, activists and all those who defend democracy and human rights to join this march.

On 2 November at 14:00 at Votiv Park, let's flow to Vienna for the freedom of Leader Apo.”
