Casualties reported in military helicopter crash in Giresun province

A Sikorsky S-70 helicopter carrying top military personnel including a brigadier general, a colonel and two majors has crashed in the Black Sea province of Giresun Tuesday evening.

According to initial reports, the military helicopter was carrying 11 people including Gendarmerie Region Deputy Commander Brigadier Mustafa Doğru, provincial gendarmerie executive officer, provincial regiment commander, as well as the wives of the top soldiers and their children.

The helicopter reportedly crashed in the Tohumluk highlands located between Alucra and Yağlıdere districts at around 17:30.

No details were immediately available as to the cause of the helicopter crash.
