The Kurdish Democratic Council in France (CDK-F) expressed its “strongest indignation” and condemned “in the strongest terms the acts of violence committed by members of the Gray Wolves in Lyon on 9 May, against the volunteers and representatives of the Green Left Party (YSP).
Since the opening of polling stations in France in the framework of Turkish presidential and legislative elections, many incidents have broken out, particularly in Marseilles.
The CDK-F said it didn’t want to say anything about these incidents "in order to not exacerbate tensions."
However, the Kurdish organization, now that polls are closed, issued a statement to "denounce the installation of polling stations in Lyon in the premises of the Union of Turkish-Islamic Cultural Affairs (DITIB), a religious organization under the control of the Turkish government. This is an attack on the security of elections and their democratic character."
The CDK-F said that "in the context of the elections in Turkey, we urge the French authorities to ensure the protection of associations and members of the Kurdish community in France. If Erdogan's regime were to lose these elections, we fear that our associations will be the target of reprisals from the Gray Wolves in France.
We call on the authorities to act quickly to put an end to these attacks and bring those responsible to justice. We urge all political forces, trade unions and associations as well as the French government to unequivocally condemn these attacks perpetrated by the Gray Wolves in Lyon and elsewhere in France, which undermine democracy and social peace."
The CDK-F "reiterate our commitment to defend the rights and security of the Kurdish community in France and our determination not to give in to attempts at intimidation and acts of violence."
