Celebrations in Hamburg and Nuremberg mark 10th anniversary of Rojava Revolution

Celebrations were held in Hamburg and Nuremberg to mark the 10th anniversary of the Rojava Revolution.

A celebration was held in front of the Rote Flora cultural center in Hamburg's Sternschanze district.

The celebration, attended by Kurds and their friends, started with a minute's silence. PYD representative Zozan Derik said that the revolution in Rojava was “not only the result of the collective effort of the Kurdish people, but also of the entire progressive human family.”

Stating that 12,000 people fell as martyrs and 18,000 were injured in the revolution, Zozan Derik said that all Kurds should fulfil their patriotic duties in order to protect and develop the revolution.

İhsan Varto, representative of the FED-DEM, the largest umbrella organization of the Kurds in Northern Germany, said that the Rojava revolution was inspired and nourished by the martyrs of the Great Death Fast of 14 July 1982.

German human rights activist and writer Anja Flach pointed out that the revolution that grew in Rojava and became a monument to all humanity is still threatened by the powers in the region, especially the Erdoğan regime.

Flach reminded that European states also helped Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan militarily and economically, and said that this aid should be cut off.

Jiyan Qamishlo, Rafa Kurd and Koma Afrin folklore group took the stage, while food and traditional clothes stands were opened at the event.

Signatures were also collected demanding freedom for Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan.
