Cells of political prisoners raided in Şakran No. 4 Jail

Cells of political prisoners were raided in Şakran No. 4 Prison, and all personal materials were confiscated.

Yusuf Özdemir, one of the prisoners on hunger strike, told his family in a telephone conversation that all personal materials were confiscated following a raid in their cells.

Yusuf Özdemir was arrested in 2009 when he was a student at the Department of Nursery at 9 Eylül University in İzmir. He was sentenced to 15 years and 6 months in prison and has been on hunger strike for 76 days in Şakran No. 4 T-Type Closed Prison demanding the end of  isolation.

Özdemir spoke to his family by phone and told them about the raids in their cells. His father said that he was worried about his son’s safety and added: “They confiscated all personal materials. They just put back the beds. They didn't even return their linens. My son is already on hunger strike. Now we don't know his situation.”

Özdemir said that his son could not communicate the information clearly and explicitly because he was talking on the phone and calls could be monitored.

He said that isolation is a crime against humanity and added: “We stand by the resistance of our sons and daughters. We will be with our sons and daughters no matter the price. They will break isolation.”
